I pleased to announce I will be having a studio opening in the near future on Woodstock Avenue in Rutland VT. Our studio will provide an indoor venue for portraits, engagement photos, commercial items and more. I expect to have the doors open to the public by October. I'll keep everybody tuned as renovations continue!

Lye Brook Falls

Some say getting to the waterfall is half the fun, well getting to this waterfall is a half a day trek. Packing a fourty pound pack and a three year old, the 2.4 mile each way hike to this waterfall proved challenging. Total time was about four hours round trip, was it worth it? I wish I had more time and freedom to move about for different angles, but Declan was along for the journey. Eventhough he wanted to turn around three times, he was not disappointed once we arrived. This waterfall boasts 110 feet of vertical drop and a narrow channel. The hike there will deter me from visiting this often, although I would encourage anybody with half a day to hike to go and enjoy all the Vermont countryside has to offer. Moss Glen Falls, Granville, hopefully on Friday!

A Day in the Mountains

A full day enjoying the scenes of Vermont, finally a day without rain.
This is what it looks like when a timed shot goes wrong (above) This is what it looks like when Declan wants to participate, much better (Above)
Needless to say between, going on the Alpine Slide, Mini-Golf, Gondola to the top of Killington, hiking up there and then down to Thundering Brook Falls - Declan had a great time! Made for some good photo opts too.

HDR Photography

HDR (High Dynamic Range) Photography is a set of techniques that allows a greater dynamic range of luminances between light and dark areas of a scene than normal digital imaging techniques. The intention of HDR is to accurately represent the wide range of intensity levels found in real scenes ranging from direct sunlight to shadows.

Image above, is overexposed in the background, but perfectly exposed in the foreground.

Image above, the foreground is under exposed, but the background is perfectly exposed.
Combining these images together using the best exposures of foreground and background will provide a very well exposed final image throughout the depth of field.

Thundering Brook Falls

Thanks to fellow photographer Gary Wells, I found Thundering Brook Falls. These Falls are a very easy walk from the road. The walk there features wetlands which makes for some birdwatching and moose sight seeing. These falls will be a location for future client portraits.
To capture this picture, I took three shots of the falls and combined into one picture when I got home. You would never know from the final product, this was three independent pictures.

Exploring Waterfalls

Today was a perfect day to explore and enjoy the local waterfalls of the Rutland area. I met two other
photographers today in my travels at two different waterfalls. Found Thundering Brook Falls with my son Declan, this was a perfect time to enjoy a new portrait of him. Declan had to make some pictures with my camera. It will probably be no time before he's giving me a run for my money, good I could use an assistant.

Vermont Rampage

Vermont Rampage, Rutland's semi-pro football team, had their first game of the season on Sunday afternoon. Fans packed the Alumni Field to watch an afternoon of action packed football.

The Vermont Rampage is in their second season on the semi-pro level and growing. Their roster includes over 40 players and numerous coaches. Jim Helm of Fair Haven is the Head Coach this season. Jim has five years of coaching football under his belt guiding the Fair Haven High School Slater's in their football program. Roy Thomas of Rutland, VT will be head of game day operations and is the marketing Director for the Rampage. Roy has been with the team since the start and has been a great asset. One of the major tasks on Roy's agenda is getting the Rampage a home field right here in Rutland.

Alumni Field boasts the only turf field in Central Vermont and is the perfect atmosphere to host numerous games for the New England Football League. The Rampage's played a tough game on Sunday, but couldn't overcome the force of the Pioneer Valley Indians. Final score 19-9. The Vermont Rampage team has been a regular fixture at the downtown Friday Night Live series of events this year. Their next home game will be held at the Alumni Field on August 9th at 4:00 pm.

Chittenden Reservior

Chittenden Reservoir's 100th Anniversary was today. The reservior provides the drinking water for Rutland City and the surrounding area.

Chittenden Reservoir was constructed over a couple of years, and began providing renewable energy in 1909. The 750-acre reservoir and land below it is owned by Central Vermont Public Service, along with the parking area and boat launch, which are leased to the state of Vermont.
Besides its role as CVPS's largest hydroelectric facility, the reservoir is one of Vermont's most pristine recreation sites. Seventeen square miles of mountainous terrain drain into the reservoir, creating spectacular habitat for dozens of species of birds, amphibians, reptiles, fish and mammals. Home to bald eagles and ospreys, moose, beavers and loons, the reservoir is one of Vermont's most undeveloped mountain lakes.

CVPS and volunteers were on hand to clean-up around the park and serve free lunch to everyone who was in attendance. Declan took his first Kayak ride today with his mother. Collin also took out the Kayak, flipping once, but was able to get back in.

Rail Vermont

Renowned Vermont artist Peter Huntoon created an original rail print during the ArtHop in the Rutland Amtrak Station on Friday. This original work will be won at a drawing that evening from raffle tickets being sold around Rutland County, at the Amtrak station event July 10th. This is the first event hosted by the Vermont Rail Action Network's Friends of Rutland Rail committee in their effort to improve ridership and passenger rail service out of Rutland, soon to Burlington! They are pleased to have the station open for Friday Night Live and ArtHop and hope it raises the profile of rail service in Rutland.

Gone Racing

Finally got over to Devil's Bowl after the fourth of July. It was Declan's first time experiencing racing, he loved it and wants to go back for more. In two weeks they will be allowing kids to take a couple laps in the stock cars, should be a good time! After weeks of non-stop rain, this was a perfect night, to enjoy racing and the sunshine.

Americade

One of the fastest bar stools I've ever seen! Ya, I would ride on that in a heartbeat.

Jamie and I finally got out on the bike this weekend, attending the Annual Americade bike rally in Lake George, NY. Beautiful, clear, sunny day, perfect for riding in a tee shirt the whole day. Got stuck in traffic for an hour trying to leave the strip, but well worth the mini vacation and awesome afternoon!

Kiss

Have I ever mentioned, Declan loves his mama!

Thomas Day Out

Today we went on a trip to visit Thomas the Train. After a rainy trip to our destination, the skies cleared and made for an excellent afternoon. It was hard to tell who had the better time, Papa or Declan. Declan enjoyed his time riding on Thomas, getting tattoos, finding his way through the hay bale maze and playing with all the exhibits. Thomas Day Out is expected to have an attendance in North Creek NY of approx. 8000 people. This was our second year going to this event!

Sunday Ride

Finally got out on the bike today for a little while. Definitely need to get a leather jacket in the near future. The fleece jacket I wore did nothing for that cold windy weather today. Still, felt great getting on those two wheels and enjoying some V-Twin power. Need to take some updated photos of my bike with some of the modifications I've done since last year.

Papa Flips

So Papa came over today and saw the new dirtbike. It's been twenty years since his last ghost ride. I figured he had improved with age, but he is not like a fine wine. Last time he rode my dirtbike he ended up doing a wheelie hanging on for quite some time before the log home broke his fall. Well, this time around wasn't much different, except he didn't hit a house. He was riding with Declan on the dirtbike and gunned it causing a wheelie and flipped the bike over with Declan on it. Needless to say Declan was not to happy with this. I guess you can't teach an old dog new tricks. I've got to say his first ride was probably the funniest thing I've ever seen my Dad do, Wish I had a photo or movie of that. Collin pictured, look ma no hands! Now we need to get a bike that fits Collin.

Landscaping

Finished removing all the sod from our front hill today. Restacked the rockwall (leveling it) and ended up with some leftover rocks. Started to assemble the new upper rock wall and planted new flowers and greenry in the new flower beds! Now I need to search the countryside for some more flat rocks to finish this wall.

First Wheels

Well I found a nice deal on a dirt bike for my little guy at the 1st Annual West Rutland town wide garage sale. Declan has been wanting a dirt bike since he saw the stunt riders at the fairgrounds a couple years ago. When the deal presented itself, I could not pass it by. Now he can have some of the same enjoyment I had as a kid growing up. He's starting a bit earlier than I did, so watch out X-Game riders for this future motocrosser. Thanks to Charlie at www.centralvermontmotorcycles.com/ for his help hooking us up with the training wheels!

Smile

Do you ever get the feeling, animals know when your taking their picture. Well, this guy turned right around and gave me this look. I don't think he's camera shy. This was the perfect expression for a perfect Friday afternoon.

War Paint

My son, Declan, enjoyed painting his own face tonight to match his new BDU camoflage shirt and pants. What a memory to capture forever! The next day he painted his face again and went all over, from store to store, entertaining people along his way.
